| Speakerdog Sets Sail... into the sunset. Dearest Speakerdog Fans, For the passed 6 years we have all enjoyed a wonderful journey around the world with our very special friend, Speakerdog. He has taken us to meadows and cities, through forests and fields, up mountains, across oceans, over the clouds and under the rainbows. We are sorry to tell you that Speakerdog is now setting off on his final journey, sailing into the sunset. Fi and I have had such a blast playing with our little character over the years, but the time has come for us to say farewell to our little buddy while we focus our life on the two little characters in our own home (namely, our dog Doze and our new son Woody). Since he first appeared on a painting of mine, Speakerdog has shown his face on tshirts and belts, in solo exhibitions from Teesside to Tokyo and in group shows from Los Angeles to Lima; he has been widely featured in magazines, blogs and books; he has been a paper toy and a plush toy; he has been exhibited on sneakers, records, vinyl toys and mirrors; he's even made a couple of weird TV appearances and become part of school projects across the UK and USA! Perhaps most people know Speakerdog as a paper toy, this has certainly been one of the most exciting parts of the journey. I was already illustrating Speakerdog when I discovered the amazing work of Shin Tanaka, which inspired me to develop my own paper toy. It wasn't long before Sjors Trimbach saw him and suggested he customize my character template. Since then there has been hundreds, possibly thousands, of different Speakerdog designs. We are so proud of how the Speakerdog paper toy has ended up, with custom designs from the likes of Jared Nickersn, Triclops Studio, Niark1, Paulo Arriaino, Lunartik, Tsai-Fi, Andy Smith and almost the entire artist population of Mexico! We even got to take it full-circle and collaborate with Shin Tanaka! Of course it is a sad time, to be bringing such a successful project to an end, but we have had so much fun with Speakerdog, and he has taken up so much of our time, that we have to call it a day, so we can put our hearts and souls, our time and effort, into our illustration and design jobs, and most importantly, our family. Thank you all so much for your support and love over the years, Speakerdog has brought a lot of smiles and fun to a lot of people, strangely I created him to be a positive, optimistic role-model, and a little of that seems to have rubbed off on me now, I think I'll always carry a little of Speakerdog in my heart. Keep smilin' Ben the Illustrator ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Speakerdog.com and The Speakerdog Shop will remain online until 31st March 2010, we will still be selling Speakerdog products until closure. >>> Click here to pick up some Speakerdog goodies while you can! <<< ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Life & Times Of Speakerdog (this is what we did...)
