About Ben the Illustrator...

Ben O'Brien is a commercial illustrator based in Cornwall, UK, with a background including animating and directing music videos for labels including Sony Japan and Domino Records; Tshirt design; album sleeve design and illustration; editorial illustration for clients including The Guardian and Vice Magazine and advertising campaigns for clients including Smart Cars and Honda.

Ben works alongside his wife, Fiona, who manages their print and product stores, and the ever-popular Speakerdog Paper Toys project. Fiona has previously worked successfully in the advertising industry as studio and account manager for both boutique and major ad agencies in Australia.

The latest illustration for the series of Smart Car advertisements making up Smart's refreshingly alternative ad campaign.  Here the bubbly Smart Car cruises into an American city to spread some good vibes!

Cadbury's Creme Eggs | 20.03.08

Publicis HQ in London is currently holding an exhibition of illustrations inspired by and in honour of Cadbury's Creme Eggs! My depiction of a world of natural Creme Egg gooeyness is included.

Computer Arts | 13.03.08

Issue 147 of Computer Arts magazine features a tutorial by me tackling the task of creating a nice but gnarly tree in Adobe Illustrator.

Smart Cars | 18.01.08

The most exciting project in my on-going collaboration with Smart Cars. I designed this car last summer, it went into production in Germany, and was later exhibited at a very special Smart Car show for one week in San Jose, California.
